As an artist, I have to work hard everyday on improving my skills... but here's the secret that most people who have never had a lick of education in art: If you're foundations are not solid enough, your drawings will look off. Sure you can coast your way through life with just drawing like your favorite artist, try to mimic what he/she does. But that's just it, you're mimicking what they are doing. You don't know yourself how they got their style or how they exaggerate their drawing's. You're drawing THEIR circles, THEIR way of drawing hands.... and on and on and on. Wouldn't it be better if you yourself knew how to draw hands, feet, and heads yourself in your own way? That's what you're favorite professional artist's have done, and if you want to rock in this field so do you. That's why my climb to the top is taking a while, but with enough repetition I will someday soon get my own style. How do you get your own style? By inspiration and great fundamentals. Believe me, this is harder than it looks.

So what now? How do I get better at art? How do I change my way of thinking of what makes a great picture, what makes great art? Education. What do I mean by that? Well you either A.) Go to a highly expensive school and get a great education at an art school teaching you those fundamentals. or B.) Go to the book store and buy some great art books on fundamentals of art. So what books should I go get? That's where the road gets a little murky as there are thousands of great books on art, but here's a few I would recommend.

1. How To Draw Manga: Sketching Manga style Series- Don't let the name manga fool you. This is a really great series on how to draw humans, how to draw limbs, and even perspective and props. This series however is really rare and out of print, and unless you have 200 dollars to blow on a brand spanking new book then chances are you might want to go looking for this online for cheap. I know there is this Chinese website that sells the English versions, and they are 30-40 bucks a pop... but here's the best news: I have found all of them online on Scribd. Don't believe me? Hit the link after the journal.

2. Any book by Andrew Loomis, but to be more precise "Figure Drawing for all it's worth"- This is it. The core of becoming a great artist is that you have to make a believable but stylish figure drawing. Figure drawing is the one fundamental that has fundamentals inside that one fundamental. You have to think how arms, legs, and hands and feet work. Andrew Loomis is the one that will take you to the promised land if you work hard and study his ways. This book and many other books by him will teach you the way.

3. How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way- Ok, this one covers the basics with a barebones cliff-note vision, but it is nice to see how the comics and what goes on when planning to draw a comic. This one book is great if you want to make a comic/manga because the basics of making both mediums are right here in this book. This isn't as detailed in the fundamentals as the other books I stated above, but learning how to make comics make it a must read.

Ok with all my recommendations covered I am glad to announce that I have all the books in a scribd collection for all of you to see. All you need to do is to sign up for free and you are on your way. Let's all get better at this thing folks! HERE'S THE LINK!!

:iconladygt: for being one of the finalists in the WE LOVE FINE Naruto Shippuden T-Shirt contest.

She was picked by the editor of Naruto, which is almost as good as being picked by Kishimoto himself. Not only that, she won a cool $350 in the process. I also entered too... and it didn't end so well for me. It just goes to show you that if you have the talent and a following, the rest is easy. So kudos for my friend, and have a good day everyone.
